Ο Νικηφόρος Βρεττάκος (1912-1991) αποτελεί σημαντικό κεφάλαιο στην εξέλιξη της νεοελληνικής γραμματείας. Το έργο του εκτιμήθηκε στην εποχή του -μια μεγάλη περίοδο ζυμώσεων, πνευματικών, κοινωνικών και πολιτικών για τον ελληνισμό- ενώ εξακολουθεί να διαβάζεται και να συγκινεί τις νεότερες γενιές αναγνωστών. Έχουν κυκλοφορήσει 39 ποιητικές συλλογές του (μεταξύ άλλων: «Φιλοσοφία των λουλουδιών», «Ο Προμηθέας ή Το παιχνίδι μιας μέρας», «Το βάθος του κόσμου», «Ο Ταΰγετος και η σιωπή» κ.ά.). Για την προετοιμασία του έργου το ΕΚΕΒΙ θα συνεργαστεί στενά με τη Δημόσια Κεντρική Βιβλιοθήκη Σπάρτης, η οποία διαθέτει το πλήρες αρχείο του ποιητή ( http://www.nikiforos.edu.gr/ ), καθώς και με πολιτιστικούς φορείς της Λακωνίας.
